Biography
May is the Director of Instructional Design & Online Learning at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine (Penn Vet). Her expertise is in instructional design, digital pedagogy, online learning systems design, multimedia creation & technology implementation. May has a passion for developing valuable and interactive digital design initiatives as well as engaging instructional content with a strong focus on building community within the online environment. She excels at identifying & bridging gaps in ideas, concepts and processes and enjoys guiding others from idea conception to project execution with an eye to documentation, aesthetics, process design, user experience and execution strategies.

While at Penn Vet, May led the design and development of Penn Vet’s 1st Online Graduate Certificate & 1st Online Research Master of Science in Animal Welfare & Behavior programs. She directs the Penn Vet community in best practices for digital design and online education and collaborates extensively with faculty and staff to conceptualize and create brand new online learning opportunities as well as restructure and redesign existing traditional courses for the online environment. In addition, she actively collaborates with Penn Vet’s internal and external partners such as the Penn Vet Working Dog Center, Penn Vet Continuing Education, Merck Animal Health and others to create high quality, accessible and sustainable online education.

May received her BA in Digital Arts & Multimedia Design and an MS in Instructional Technology Management from La Salle University. She is also an adjunct professor for the Digital Arts & Multimedia Design program at La Salle University. Prior to arriving at Penn Vet, she was the Visual Design Coordinator for La Salle University and Instructional Designer at DeSales University and Thomas Jefferson University. May is committed to guiding and helping the higher education community to understand learner-centered design and how to implement new technology & tools and leverage existing resources to create engaging and scalable online learning opportunities.
